Political tensions in the Mount Kenya region continue to rise following fresh criticism directed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by a Nyeri-based legislator.
In a viral video circulating online, the Othaya Member of Parliament openly rebuked Gachagua, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful development during his tenure in government.
The MP claimed that while serving as the country’s second-in-command, Gachagua did little to safeguard the interests of Nyeri County and the broader Mount Kenya region.
The outspoken lawmaker further distanced himself from Gachagua’s political ambitions, declaring support for the “Two Term” narrative associated with President William Ruto.

His remarks signal growing divisions within the region, which Gachagua has been actively trying to consolidate ahead of the 2027 General Election through his DCP party strategy.
According to the MP, Gachagua’s current efforts to rally support are misplaced, arguing that leadership should be judged based on past performance.
He went on to vow that the electorate would hold the former deputy president accountable at the ballot, warning of a political backlash in 2027.
This latest development deals a blow to Gachagua’s influence in Mount Kenya, highlighting the challenges he faces in uniting leaders under his political vision as competition and internal dissent continue to intensify.
