Seme Member of Parliament James Nyikal has broken his silence following a dramatic incident in which Siaya Governor James Orengo was forced to leave a funeral ceremony amid chaos.
In a video that has since circulated widely online, a group of rowdy youths stormed the main tent, disrupting the solemn event and compelling Orengo and his entourage to exit abruptly. The situation quickly escalated, with mourners seen fleeing the venue before the service could be concluded.
Addressing the incident, Nyikal described the events as deeply unfortunate, especially given that the gathering was meant to honor his late father.

He revealed that he personally approached Siaya Senator Tom Ojienda, who had arrived at the funeral accompanied by a large group of youths, urging him to restrain them. However, according to Nyikal, the efforts did not bear fruit, ultimately leading to the disruption.
Nyikal expressed concern over the growing trend of politicians moving around with crowds of young supporters, often used to chant slogans or display political strength.
He warned that such practices risk undermining public order and respect, particularly during sensitive occasions like funerals.
The legislator called on leaders across the political divide to exercise restraint and prioritize peaceful engagement with citizens. He emphasized the need to build political influence through meaningful connection with the electorate rather than through displays of force or intimidation.
The incident has sparked widespread debate, with many Kenyans condemning the disruption and calling for greater decorum among leaders and their supporters during public gatherings.
