Siaya County Governor James Orengo has broken his silence after a dramatic incident in Seme, where he was reportedly forced to leave a funeral ceremony amid chaos linked to his political stance.
The incident occurred during the burial of Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father to Seme Member of Parliament James Nyikal, at Ridore Primary School.
Videos circulating online showed a tense situation as a group of agitated residents escorted Governor Orengo out of the tent where mourners had gathered, allegedly over his support for the controversial Linda Mwananchi initiative.
In a strongly worded statement released shortly after the incident, Orengo thanked the people of Seme for what he described as a “heroic welcome,” while condemning the disruption of the solemn event.

He claimed that external forces interfered with the funeral, accusing the state and its alleged agents of orchestrating chaos.
“It is both shameful and a national disgrace that a solemn send-off could be disrupted,” Orengo stated, adding that the situation escalated to the point where clergy were forced to cut the service short and proceed with an immediate burial to maintain order.
The governor maintained that intimidation tactics, including alleged use of teargas and hired goons, would not deter the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
He described the movement as a people-driven force committed to defending the rights and voices of ordinary Kenyans.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some condemning the disruption of a funeral, while others continue to debate the political tensions surrounding the initiative. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the claims.
