Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse Claims Threats to Life After Leading Gachagua Impeachment
NAIROBI, Kenya — Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse has publicly expressed fear for his life, accusing local political rivals of inciting hostility and plotting against him following his central role in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Mutuse, who tabled the high-profile impeachment motion in Parliament that led to Gachagua’s removal from office, spoke out during a recent political gathering in the Ukambani region.
While the lawmaker had previously defended his actions as necessary for governance, the political atmosphere in his home turf appears to have turned hostile.

In a video circulating online, the legislator directly accused a unnamed regional leader of provoking local residents to carry out violence against him and other politicians aligned with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
“A leader publicly told residents to sharpen their arrows and use them against us simply because we support President William Ruto,” Mutuse stated during the event, visibly alarmed by the rising political heat in the region.
Mutuse condemned the rhetoric, warning that political differences should not be escalated into physical threats or ethnic tension. He called on regional politicians and community members to embrace political tolerance and accommodative discourse as the country navigates a volatile post-impeachment climate.
The lawmaker’s public outcry comes amid growing division in various regions regarding the political fallout from Gachagua’s ouster. Security apparatus in the county are expected to investigate the claims of incitement and threats to public safety as tensions remain elevated ahead of future electoral alignments.
