Sifuna Reveals Real Reason He Voted To Impeach Rigathi Gachagua

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has broken his silence on why he voted to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV, Sifuna addressed the contentious vote directly.

The lawmaker answered tough questions from veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara. He insisted his vote was purely a constitutional duty to protect devolution.

Devolution Under Attack In Nairobi

The ODM secretary general accused Gachagua of interfering directly in Nairobi County affairs. He stated that the former Deputy President constantly meddled in city management.

“Gachagua was interfering with the running of Nairobi County,” Sifuna said. “That was undermining devolution, something I swore to protect as senator.”

He explained that national leaders must respect devolved governance structures.

Sifuna Slams Bribery Allegations

The Nairobi senator also addressed online claims regarding lawmaker bribery during the trial. He strongly dismissed rumors that senators received cash to kick out Gachagua.

Sifuna clarified that no financial influence determined his vote in the Senate.
“Nobody bribed me to vote for his impeachment,” Sifuna stated firmly.

He reiterated that principles and facts drove his stance on the floor.

Fresh Sparks In Gachagua Impeachment Fallout

These remarks could trigger fresh political friction with the former Deputy President. Gachagua has consistently maintained that his removal was politically driven and unlawful. He insists he did nothing wrong during his tenure in office.
