A political storm is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna opened up about a moment he nearly stepped down from his powerful party position.
Speaking in a video interview that has since gone viral, Sifuna recounted a tense period when he contemplated resigning as ODM Secretary General following internal wrangles and public criticism.
According to the senator, the turning point came after a chaotic rally in Kakamega where he was heckled in the presence of then party leader Raila Odinga.
Sifuna claimed that during the incident, Oburu Odinga openly questioned his suitability for the Secretary General role, remarks that deeply affected him. The situation reportedly escalated as sections of the crowd also turned hostile toward Raila, signaling growing unrest within the party’s support base at the time.

In the aftermath, and following what Sifuna described as a difficult political environment, he decided to approach Oburu—who he says had since taken up a leadership role in the party—to seek clarity on his position. According to Sifuna, he directly asked whether Oburu still believed he was unfit to serve.
“He told me that was water under the bridge,” Sifuna said in the interview, adding that the two shook hands and agreed to move forward.
However, the senator now claims that despite that apparent reconciliation, underlying tensions remained unresolved. He suggested that he later realized he had not been fully forgiven, hinting at continued friction behind the scenes.
The revelations have sparked fresh debate among ODM supporters and political analysts, with many questioning the stability and unity of the party’s leadership.
Neither Oburu Odinga nor the ODM party has officially responded to Sifuna’s claims, leaving room for further speculation as the video continues to circulate widely online.
