Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has sparked a heated online debate after issuing a condolence message following the death of veteran doctor Dr. Job Obwaka. While the message was intended to honor the late medic’s legacy, a section of Kenyans has strongly criticized the CS, accusing him of hypocrisy.
Dr. Obwaka, a respected obstetrician and former director at Nairobi Hospital, passed away earlier today after being rushed to hospital by his family.
Sources close to the family revealed that he became unconscious at home, prompting an urgent effort to seek medical attention. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the facility.
In his official statement, Duale expressed deep sorrow and praised Dr. Obwaka’s contribution to Kenya’s healthcare system.

He described the late doctor as a dedicated professional who played a significant role in advancing maternal and reproductive health services, mentoring generations of practitioners, and strengthening standards of care.
However, the message did not sit well with some Kenyans online. Critics took to social media to question the sincerity of the CS, pointing to the government’s alleged role in the doctor’s recent troubles.
They claimed that Dr. Obwaka had previously been arrested and detained for several days despite his advanced age, an incident that reportedly caused public outrage at the time.
Many users accused Duale and the administration he serves of “shedding crocodile tears,” arguing that the same system now mourning the doctor had earlier subjected him to distress.
Others called for accountability, insisting that honoring his legacy should also involve addressing the circumstances that may have affected his final days.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing tension between government officials and public perception, especially on matters involving justice and the treatment of senior professionals.
