Ford Kenya Rift Deepens as Wetangula Publicly Rejects Kakai Bisau’s Nomination Demand
KWANZA, TRANS NZOIA — The political landscape in Western Kenya is growing increasingly fractious ahead of the 2027 general election, as National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula moves aggressively to stamp his authority on the region.
In a stark departure from previous election cycles where Wetangula’s word went unchallenged in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties, local leaders are beginning to push back against top-down directives.
The brewing tension boiled over during a public function in Kwanza constituency, culminating in a dramatic showdown between Wetangula and one of his closest parliamentary allies.
The confrontation began when Kiminini Member of Parliament, Kakai Bisau, took to the podium to challenge the party’s succession plans. Bisau publicly urged Wetangula to withdraw his pre-emptive endorsement of former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat.
The lawmaker argued that democratic principles should prevail, demanding that Nakhumicha subject herself to open party nominations to face off against other prospective candidates fairly.

An visibly agitated Wetangula wasted no time in shutting down the dissent. When he took the microphone, the veteran politician issued a fiery response that left Bisau visibly shaken.
Wetangula firmly decreed that Ford Kenya had already finalized its decision to hand Nakhumicha the party ticket for 2027, bluntly telling Bisau and other hopefuls that they would simply have to wait their turn.
The public reprimand left the Kiminini legislator humiliated and struggling to maintain his composure for the remainder of the event.
Political analysts view this public dressing-down as a clear signal that Wetangula is determined to retain absolute control over Ford Kenya’s strongholds, even if it means alienating key loyalists in the process.
