BONDO, Kenya — Maurice Ogeta, the long-serving personal aide and bodyguard to the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, has broken his silence regarding the final moments of the veteran politician before his untimely demise in India.
Speaking at the rural home of the late opposition titan in Kango ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County, Mr. Ogeta recounted the harrowing sequence of events that transpired on October 15, 2025.
The emotional revelation was made during a ceremony where the Gor Mahia Premier League trophy was being presented to the former Prime Minister’s widow, Mama Ida Odinga.
Seeking to quell numerous conspiracy theories surrounding how the 80-year-old statesman collapsed, Ogeta clarified that the incident occurred during their routine physical exercise.
According to the aide, the two were taking a morning walk around their villa compound in Kerala, India.
“We completed the first round, which took about an hour,” Ogeta recounted. “But just as we began the second round, the Prime Minister suddenly stopped and froze before completely losing control of himself.”

Ogeta, who was walking just a few meters behind the ODM leader, dashed forward to support him before he hit the ground. Holding his longtime boss in his arms, a panicked Ogeta urgently asked him what was wrong.
According to the aide, Odinga attempted to speak but could only utter a single syllable.
“He just managed to say ‘I…’ and that was the last thing that came from his mouth,” Ogeta stated, fighting back tears.
Odinga was subsequently rushed to Devamatha Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered fatal cardiac failure. Ogeta’s emotional eyewitness account provides closure to millions of followers who had been left speculating about the final words of Kenya’s Second Liberation icon.
