Interior CS Murkomen Condemns Abduction of Standard Editor, Vows Swift Legal Action
The government has strongly condemned the recent abduction of Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen describing the incident as “barbaric” and a disgrace.
Speaking publicly regarding the night attack, Murkomen assured the nation that the government will pursue those responsible and ensure they face the full force of the law. His comments follow growing public outrage after Kiprotich was accosted by masked, armed gunmen along the Gilgil–Nakuru highway.
According to account details from the editor, the assailants blocked his vehicle and ordered him out immediately before driving him away.

Kiprotich was held for roughly nine hours, during which he was interrogated, before being abandoned in a thicket near Masinga Dam in Machakos County—over 200 kilometers from where he was seized.
He sought refuge at a nearby household before being located by a team from the media house. Although shaken and nursing minor injuries, he was confirmed to be safe and subsequently taken for medical attention.
CS Murkomen revealed that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has directed urgent, high-level investigations into the matter. Addressing media safety concerns, Murkomen emphasized that disagreements over journalistic work must be handled strictly through legal and judicial channels rather than intimidation or illegal detentions.
He vowed that neither politicians, business people, nor rogue state operatives would be allowed to use state offices or government machinery to oppress journalists.
Murkomen added that security agencies will step up protection for media practitioners as the country heads into the next election period, ensuring journalists are shielded while executing their duties. No suspects have been publicly identified yet as investigations continue.
