An aggressive political storm has erupted online following a viral video of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua taking direct aim at President William Ruto over the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election.
Speaking at an event flanked by key United Opposition leaders, a visibly angry Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of using state resources to unethically manipulate voters.
Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), asserted that the government has suddenly deployed all tactical moves in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County.
He pointed out a sudden influx of state-sponsored development projects and material “goodies”—including free LPG cylinders, mattresses, and cash handouts—all designed to secure a win for the ruling coalition’s candidate following the demise of the late MP David Kiaraho.

In a scathing remark that quickly sparked fierce debate across social media, Gachagua suggested that the government’s selective focus on by-election zones leaves marginalized communities desperate.
He claimed that under the current regime, ordinary citizens are being pushed to a point where they are jokingly praying for the demise of their sitting Members of Parliament just to experience short-term state development.
“Other Kenyans are left with the only option of praying that their leaders pass on so that they can also experience such immense development in the shortest period,” Gachagua stated in the viral clip.
The bold remarks have deepened the widening rift between the former Deputy President and his former boss, President Ruto.
While opposition supporters lauded Gachagua for calling out perceived voter bribery, Kenya Kwanza allies quickly fired back, accusing him of raising unnecessary political temperatures and trivializing death for political mileage.
With the 2027 general election approaching, the high-stakes battle for Ol Kalou has officially turned into a proxy war for control of the Mt. Kenya region.
