NAIROBI, KENYA — Western region politics has taken an explosive turn as Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna secures a major political endorsement, drastically altering the landscape long dominated by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
A viral video circulating across social platforms shows a council of respected elders from across Western region counties declaring their unequivocal support for Sifuna’s bid for the presidency.
The surprising declaration directly dismisses the leadership of Mudavadi and Wetangula, whom the elders accuse of failing to offer clear political direction.
According to the elders, the region has suffered a leadership vacuum since the passing of historical political heavyweights such as Masinde Muliro and former Vice President Kijana Wamalwa.
They asserted that the old guard has overstayed its political relevance without delivering unified progress for the region.

“The region has lacked true direction for years. We need fresh leadership that carries the aspirations of the new generation,” one elder stated in the viral footage, pledging to rally youth across all counties behind Sifuna’s banner regardless of pushback from established politicians.
The announcement presents a severe political blow to Mudavadi and Wetangula, who have long positioned themselves as the indisputable Luhya community kingmakers.
Sifuna’s growing popularity among Gen Z and millennial voters, combined with this blessing from traditional elders, signals a major generational realignment.
As the Sifuna wave gains momentum across the region, local political analysts note that the political dynamics of Western Kenya may never be the same again.
