Didmus Barasa Cries Out Over Alleged Gang-Up by Rich Political Class in Bungoma Governor Race
BUNGOMA, Kenya — Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has alleged a coordinated plan by wealthy elites in Bungoma County to derail his gubernatorial campaign for the 2027 General Election.
The vocal lawmaker, who has been pitching his agenda to residents every weekend across the county, raised the concerns following the entry of Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi into the race.
In a video circulating online, a visibly emotional Barasa claimed that a faction of the rich political class in Bungoma has ganged up against his candidacy, holding strategic meetings to ensure he does not succeed in replacing the current leadership.
He stated that his opponents feel threatened by his growing grassroots support and are leveraging their political weight and financial advantage to block his path to the county top seat.

Barasa appealed to Bungoma voters to resist political cartels and judge candidates by their track records rather than wealth. Positioning himself as a son of the soil, the MP reminded residents that he was raised in a humble, low-income background.
“I was raised by a poor family, so I deeply understand the struggles and obligations of everyday citizens,” Barasa said, promising that his administration would prioritize the needs of ordinary hustlers and ensure equitable distribution of county resources without bias.
The Bungoma gubernatorial contest is shaping up to be a tight race. Barasa’s populist strategy directly targets the electorate, seeking to turn his background into his strongest political asset against his opponents.
