Chaos in Homa Bay as Linda Mwananchi Convoy Vandalized by Goons
Tensions erupted into night-time violence in Homa Bay County after a convoy belonging to the opposition-leaning Linda Mwananchi Movement was ambushed and heavily vandalized by coordinated groups of youth.
According to online video reports circulated by politicians and eyewitnesses attending the movement’s rally—including Dr. Wela, an aspirant for the Vihiga County Woman Representative position—the entourage made its way into Homa Bay Town after dark.
Upon arrival, the vehicles encountered blocked roads, burning tires, and gangs armed with crude weapons who reportedly vandalized cars and looted personal belongings, forcing several occupants to seek immediate refuge.

Among those targeted in the wider convoy attacks were vehicles associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, and local media teams covering the procession. Wangamati publicly confirmed that his vehicle was attacked at Asumbi Junction on the way into the town center.
Dr. Wela and allied leaders pointed pointing fingers directly at Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, characterizing her administration and local political leadership as primary persons of interest behind the hostility.
The Linda Mwananchi team alleges the assault was a pre-arranged attempt by local ODM leaders to bar the movement’s entry into Nyanza region.
However, Governor Gladys Wanga and senior ODM officials refuted the claims. Speaking alongside Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi in Kisumu, Wanga defended the local leadership, counter-accusing the Linda Mwananchi organizers of deliberately provoking tension and staging conflict to paint county officials in a bad light.
Local police confirmed that several vehicles were damaged and arrests were made following the nighttime clashes. Tensions remain elevated in the region as calls grow for thorough investigations into the incident.
