UDA SG Hassan Omar Bows to Pressure, Apologizes to Central Kenya Community Over Recent Remarks
NAIROBI, Kenya — United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General and EALA MP, Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, has issued a formal apology following a major political backlash triggered by comments he made recently regarding historical land injustices.
According to an official statement released by the Office of the Secretary General on May 24, 2026, in the file, the ruling party’s spokesperson sought to clear the air after his initial comments, which initially targeted former President Uhuru Kenyatta during a tour of the Coast region, were widely interpreted as an offensive onslaught against the larger Kikuyu community.
“Misinterpreted and Taken Out of Context”
In the clarification letter featured in 1001606331.jpg, Senator Omar defended his record, stating that his comments “were never intended to demean, offend, or target any community.”

He explained that his address in the Coastal region was meant to advocate for solutions regarding historical land injustices in the area, rather than to promote “division, hostility, or animosity among communities.”
The Apology
Despite offering context for his speech, the intense political pressure stemming from disgruntled leaders and citizens—particularly from the Mount Kenya region—forced the UDA Secretary General to back down and strike a conciliatory tone.
“Nevertheless, I fully appreciate that some of our brothers and sisters, particularly from the Central Kenya region, may have felt aggrieved by the remarks,” Omar stated in 1001606331.jpg. “To all those who may have been offended, I sincerely regret the misunderstanding and extend my apology.”
By issuing the apology, Omar hopes to de-escalate the rising political temperatures and reinforce his commitment to upholding the “dignity, rights, and unity of all Kenyans.” This move comes at a sensitive time when the ruling UDA party is actively trying to maintain cohesion among its core political bases ahead of future alignments.
