Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has issued a sharp strategic warning to top opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election, urging them to pivot their alliance-building efforts away from former President Uhuru Kenyatta and toward former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a pointed political assessment, the prominent constitutional lawyer singled out Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, advising non-Kikuyu presidential aspirants to abandon what he characterized as futile political engagements with the former head of state.
Abdullahi maintained that political power dynamics in the Central Kenya region have fundamentally shifted, making Gachagua the decisive figure in determining the electoral trajectory of the Mount Kenya voting bloc.
According to Abdullahi, Gachagua stands out as the most consequential political actor after President William Ruto regarding the 2027 political matrix.
He emphasized that any contender genuinely aiming for victory must court, negotiate with, and seek the endorsement of the leader from Wamunyoro.
He cautioned that failing to recognize Gachagua’s influence could result in political ruin, predicting that the former deputy president possesses the leverage to either build or dismantle presidential ambitions in the region.
Dismissing rival political factions within Mount Kenya, Abdullahi characterized alternative leaders and emerging initiatives as minor projects functioning merely as compromised political vehicles for retired interests.
He stressed that continuing to rely on Kenyatta for regional mobilization amounts to a miscalculation, as real political control now rests with active leaders on the ground.
The Senior Counsel’s intervention comes at a time when opposition figures are actively exploring coalition options, signaling that alignment with Gachagua remains a vital prerequisite for any campaign seeking a viable path to the presidency in 2027.
