Veteran media personality and politician Tony Gachoka has stirred up the Nairobi gubernatorial contest with a scathing assessment of his competitors, declaring that key opposition figures now face severe strategic hurdles.
Examining the shifting political dynamics in the capital, Gachoka asserted that Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino are operating at a distinct political disadvantage as elections approach.
Gachoka specifically targeted Owino’s gubernatorial ambitions, predicting that the lawmaker’s attempt to mount a campaign under his Mwananchi Party platform will ultimately fail at the ballot box.
He argued that relying on fragmented political vehicles in a multi-ethnic, highly competitive arena like Nairobi severely undermines Owino’s chances against better-positioned opponents.
Narrowing down the list of viable contenders for City Hall, Gachoka framed the upcoming race as a tight duel between himself and Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.
He designated himself and Gakuya as the primary front-runners capable of commanding the necessary backing to secure the county’s top executive seat.
Expressing total confidence in his own political prospects, Gachoka stated his intention to make history by becoming the first governor elected from the Mount Kenya region to lead Nairobi County.
Gachoka’s bold claims come at a time when major political coalitions are actively negotiating power-sharing arrangements and nomination frameworks across the capital.
By dismissing alternative candidates and declaring a two-horse race alongside Gakuya, Gachoka’s remarks have intensified debates over party tickets, ethnic voting blocs, and coalition dynamics heading into the gubernatorial contest.
