Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has issued a stern strategic warning to prominent opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election, urging them to pivot their alliance-building efforts away from former President Uhuru Kenyatta and toward former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a sharp political assessment, the constitutional lawyer addressed potential non-Kikuyu presidential candidates, specifically singling out Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Abdullahi advised both leaders to immediately halt what he characterized as unproductive engagements with Kenyatta.
He asserted that the political landscape in Central Kenya has undergone a fundamental shift, leaving the former head of state with diminished influence.
According to Abdullahi, Gachagua now stands as the central figure and primary political broker in the region.
Describing him as the most consequential politician after President William Ruto regarding the 2027 electoral matrix, the lawyer argued that any contender genuinely seeking victory must woo and negotiate directly with Gachagua.
He emphasized that Gachagua possesses the political leverage to either construct or dismantle presidential bids across the voter-rich region.
Dismissing rival factions and emerging political initiatives in Mount Kenya, Abdullahi characterized alternative leaders as minor, dependent political constructs lacking independent weight.
He warned that failing to recognize Gachagua’s position would carry severe electoral costs.
Abdullahi stressed that if Kalonzo or Sifuna squander the opportunity to establish ties with the leader from Wamunyoro, Gachagua could fracture their political coalitions and elevate alternative candidates instead.
The Senior Counsel’s comments underline ongoing debates surrounding Central Kenya’s leadership structure, suggesting that aligning with Gachagua remains an indispensable prerequisite for any opposition ticket aiming for the presidency in 2027.
