Oscar Sudi Breaks Silence After Shock UDA Defeat in Ol Kalou By-Election
OL KALOU, Kenya — In a major political upset, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has publicly reacted to the resounding defeat of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the high-stakes Ol Kalou constituency by-election.
The by-election, which was widely seen as a litmus test for the political control of the Mt. Kenya region, saw Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) clinch a landslide victory over UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyagah.
Sudi, a staunch ally of President William Ruto who heavily campaigned on the ground in Nyandarua County, struck a conciliatory tone. Taking to his platforms, the Kapseret lawmaker congratulated the victor while affirming the government’s enduring relationship with the region.

“I want to congratulate Hon. Sammy Kamau Waweru for winning the Ol Kalou by-election. Thumbs up also to Samuel Muchinah Nyagah for a well-fought race,” Sudi stated. “I was on the ground, and I respect the decision made by the people of Ol Kalou.”
The fiercely contested poll followed the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho. The DCP, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, marshaled strong local support to secure over 80% of the provisional vote, dealing a heavy blow to the ruling party’s influence in the “Murima” (Mt. Kenya) heartland.
Despite the bitter loss, Sudi sought to reassure the electorate that the political relationship between the presidency and the region remains intact.
“This administration of President William Ruto was formed by the people of Murima, and they are still part of this Government. Now, my people, let us move forward,” Sudi added, urging residents to shift their focus toward development.
