Siaya County Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga has sparked fresh political debate after revealing little-known details about the role he played alongside President William Ruto and his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Oburu, who currently doubles as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader following Raila’s death, made the remarks while addressing a gathering attended by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and other leaders.
Speaking in response to critics who have accused him of failing to manage ODM with the firmness and charisma of Raila Odinga, Oburu defended his leadership credentials.
He stated that he was not a passive figure during Raila’s political engagements but was deeply involved in high-level negotiations and policy discussions.

According to Oburu, he chaired and participated in several closed-door meetings that Raila held with William Ruto and other senior leaders on national policy formulation.
He argued that this experience places him in a unique position to fully understand Raila Odinga’s political philosophy, particularly his support for the broad-based government arrangement.
Oburu further noted that Raila’s position on national unity and inclusive governance was deliberate and well thought out before his unexpected death on October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India. His remarks have reignited conversations around ODM’s future and his capacity to steer the party forward.
