Oburu Odinga Raises Concern Over Voter Registration, Urges IEBC Action
Senator Oburu Odinga has voiced concern over the ongoing voter registration and verification exercise in Kenya, calling on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to address emerging challenges affecting the process.
Speaking in the Senate, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader highlighted disparities in voter registration across different regions, noting that some areas are recording low turnout due to limited access to registration centers.
According to him, the distribution of registration kits has been uneven, leaving certain communities underserved.
Oburu argued that the current setup is disenfranchising many Kenyans, particularly those living in remote areas who are unable to travel long distances to access registration services.

He warned that if the issue is not addressed urgently, it could undermine democratic participation ahead of future elections.
“The process is not as inclusive as it should be,” he stated. “Many citizens are willing to register, but the distance to registration centers and the shortage of officers is making it difficult for them to participate.”
The senator urged Parliament to allocate additional funding to the IEBC to facilitate the recruitment of more personnel and the deployment of additional registration kits.
He emphasized that increasing resources would help bring services closer to the people, ensuring that all eligible voters are given a fair opportunity to register.
His remarks come amid growing calls from leaders and stakeholders across the political divide for transparency and fairness in the ongoing exercise. Concerns over accessibility, logistics, and preparedness have dominated discussions as the registration deadline approaches.
The IEBC has yet to respond to the latest concerns, but pressure continues to mount for swift action to safeguard the integrity of Kenya’s electoral process.
