Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has weighed in on the 2027 general election debate, outlining what both the opposition and President William Ruto must do to secure victory, while issuing a firm warning to the Luhya community against political division.
Speaking at a public event captured on video, the outspoken governor said the path to State House in 2027 will largely depend on how leaders engage the Luhya voting bloc.
Natembeya, who has increasingly positioned himself as a key voice in Western Kenya politics, argued that both President Ruto and the united opposition are fully aware of the numerical and strategic importance of Luhya votes.
According to Natembeya, no side can comfortably win the 2027 polls without meaningful support from the community.
He claimed that this reality places the Luhya people in a strong bargaining position, provided they remain united and focused on collective interests rather than individual political ambitions.
“The Luhya community has been used for many years,” Natembeya said, alleging that successive leaders have made promises during election seasons only to abandon the region once votes are secured.

He warned that continued disunity would only weaken the community’s negotiating power and allow external forces to exploit internal differences.
The Trans Nzoia governor urged Luhyas to resist leaders who thrive on division, clan politics, or personal gain at the expense of the wider community.
He stressed that unity would enable the region to negotiate firmly with both the ruling coalition and the opposition for tangible development, fair representation, and inclusion in national decision-making.
Natembeya further noted that 2027 presents an opportunity for the Luhya community to redefine its political relevance by speaking with one voice. He challenged leaders from the region to prioritize long-term interests over short-term political deals.
His remarks have sparked fresh debate in Western Kenya, as the race to consolidate regional voting blocs ahead of 2027 continues to intensify.
