Video: Edwin Sifuna Speaks On Selling ODM Party After Raila’s Death

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has strongly dismissed claims that the party can be sold following the death of its longtime leader, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a football tournament organized by Vihiga County Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Vihiga County, Sifuna addressed growing debate within political circles suggesting that ODM could be aligned or “sold” to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

The outspoken ODM official made it clear that such notions are false and should be abandoned immediately.

Sifuna warned leaders who may have been promised control or influence over the party to forget such ideas, insisting that ODM is not a personal asset that can be traded for political convenience.

He maintained that the party remains a people-driven movement anchored on principles, structures, and loyal supporters across the country.

According to the senator, ODM was built through immense sacrifice, energy, and personal resources by the late Raila Odinga, and allowing it to collapse or be sold would amount to betraying that legacy.

He emphasized that he would not preside over the destruction of a party that has played a central role in shaping Kenya’s democratic space.

Sifuna also took a swipe at ODM leaders who have publicly hinted at working with President Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election, noting that individual political ambitions should not be used to undermine party unity or ideology.

His remarks were met with cheers from attendees at the event, many of whom view ODM as a symbol of resistance politics and reform. The statement is expected to reignite internal debate within the opposition as the country slowly gears up for the next electoral cycle.
