Matiang’i Defends Uhuru, Urges Ruto Allies to Focus on Governance
NAIROBI — Jubilee Party leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i has strongly defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta, dismissing continuous attacks from President William Ruto’s allies as “petty” and “primitive.”
Lately, the Kenya Kwanza administration has frequently used the former Head of State as a political scapegoat. Government insiders have repeatedly accused Kenyatta of funding opposition protests and attempting to destabilize the current administration.
The political onslaught reached a peak when Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei tabled a motion in the Senate seeking to strip Kenyatta of his retirement benefits, arguing that his continued involvement in active politics violates the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.

“Playing with Grandchildren”
Responding to the allegations, Matiang’i criticized the government’s fixation on a retired leader, revealing that Kenyatta is simply enjoying his retirement.
“The kind of pettiness and primitiveness we have seen in addressing a retired president is shocking. A retired president is resting at his home, probably playing with his grandchildren, yet the government screams the whole weekend,” Matiang’i stated.
He described Kenyatta as a “restrained gentleman” who has chosen not to publicly fight for his legal entitlements despite deliberate delays by the state. Matiang’i emphasized that retirement benefits are constitutional guarantees, not political favors to be weaponized by legislators.
Call to Action
Matiang’i urged the Kenya Kwanza administration to stop treating Kenyatta as a boogeyman and instead shift its focus toward delivering on its promises to Kenyans.
He pointed out that the country is currently facing major hurdles, including economic hardships, rising fuel prices, and insecurity.
“You have a country to run, yet all your time is spent insulting a predecessor,” Matiang’i concluded. “There is serious work to be done. The government must focus on serving Kenyans and leave Uhuru alone.”
