Bungoma County Governor, His Excellency Kenneth Makelo Lusaka, has called for peace and calm following chaotic scenes witnessed in Chwele ahead of the November 27 Chwele–Kabuchai Ward by-election.
Tensions flared on Tuesday night after a hotel belonging to Kabuchai Member of Parliament, Majimbo Kalasinga, was reportedly vandalized. Several items were stolen in the attack allegedly carried out by individuals linked to the Ford Kenya Party.
Speaking from South Africa, Hon. Kalasinga condemned the incident, claiming that he was being targeted politically. “I know there are people planning my downfall, but I will return home soon to face them,” he said.

In response, Governor Lusaka urged all political leaders and supporters to exercise restraint and promote peace during the campaign period. “As we head into the Chwele–Kabuchai Ward by-election, I urge all leaders and supporters to uphold peace and tolerance.
Let’s conduct issue-based campaigns and respect every voter’s democratic choice. Violence and destruction have no place in Bungoma,” Lusaka stated.
He further reminded residents that elections come and go, but unity must prevail. “After elections, we’ll still be neighbours,” he added, emphasizing the importance of peace and coexistence.
