East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has opened up about life following the death of her father, veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, describing the journey as emotionally demanding but manageable with the support of family.
Speaking candidly, Winnie said she is coping as well as she can, acknowledging that grief is not a linear process.
She explained that each day brings different emotions, with some moments filled with strength and gratitude, while others are marked by profound difficulty.
According to the legislator, the absence of her father a towering figure in Kenya’s political history has left a significant void, not only within the family but also in her personal life.

Despite the emotional toll, Winnie said she has drawn inspiration from her father’s resilience, values and lifelong commitment to public service.
She remarked that Raila Odinga’s legacy continues to guide her decisions, particularly in moments when leadership responsibilities feel overwhelming.
The EALA MP also reflected on the challenge of balancing grief with public expectations, noting that the demands of leadership often leave little room for personal vulnerability.
Nonetheless, she said she has learned to embrace both her strength and her moments of weakness, recognising that healing takes time.
