Kindiki Tasks Kiraitu with Mission to Seek Uhuru’s Help in Uniting Mt Kenya Behind Ruto

MERU, Kenya — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi to approach retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and urge him to foster solidarity across the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Meru, Kindiki highlighted Kiraitu’s vast political experience, describing him as uniquely positioned to carry the message.

“Vilevile, wacha nikutume mzee Kiraitu. Kwa sababu unajua, mzee Kiraitu hakuna mtu mwingine ako na CV ambayo uko nayo. Hata mimi sijafikisha hapo,” Kindiki remarked, emphasizing that Kiraitu possesses the necessary stature to engage the former head of state.

The Deputy President urged Kiraitu to initiate talks with Uhuru to ensure leaders from Mount Kenya maintain a cohesive political strategy.
“What you do, enda utafute Rais mstaafu Uhuru Kenyatta. Ni kiongozi wetu, sisi tulimuunga mkono mia kwa mia,”

Kindiki said, acknowledging Uhuru’s enduring influence and leadership legacy in the region.
Kindiki recounted his history supporting Uhuru, citing his service on the legal team during the International Criminal Court (ICC) proceedings at The Hague, where Uhuru and then-Deputy President William Ruto faced charges before the cases were ultimately dropped. Als

He reiterated that leaders who backed Uhuru remained steadfast throughout his presidency.

Appeal for Region-Wide Solidarity

Kindiki urged Kiraitu to stress the importance of preserving Mount Kenya’s political cohesion and guarding against internal splintering.

“Kwa hivyo tafuta kiongozi wetu, Uhuru Kenyatta, umwambie mzungumze, ndio sasa kama watu ambao mmestaafu, mhakikishe kwamba hii jamii imekaa vile tuliipata,” he said.

Warning against fragmented political voices within the region, Kindiki rallied support around the ruling administration’s slogan:
“Hatuwezi kukubali hii jamii ya area hii iongee kwa lugha tofauti. Tutaongea lugha moja, na lugha ambayo tutaongea ni lugha ya TUTAM.”
The “TUTAM” mantra has been widely adopted by supporters of President William Ruto to champion continuity and back his second-term bid in 2027.

High-Stakes Battle for Mount Kenya

Kindiki’s overture unfolds amid intensified political jockeying over the electoral trajectory of the Mount Kenya vote bloc.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continues to advocate for regional unity to preserve Mount Kenya’s bargaining power. Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has advocated for stronger political representation specifically tailored to Mount Kenya East—including Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties.

Kindiki remains opposed to sub-regional splits, maintaining that Mount Kenya must speak with one voice to stay anchored within the government ahead of the 2027 polls.
