DP Kindiki Dismisses Fears Over 2027 Running Mate Seat, Asserts Loyalty to Ruto Government
NAIROBI, Kenya — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims that he is intimidated by growing speculation surrounding potential rivals eying his seat as President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election.
Addressing an enthusiastic gathering during a tour of the Mount Kenya region, the second-in-command firmly rejected reports suggesting he fears losing his position to high-profile figures, including former Kakamega Governor and current Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya.
Acknowledging the political chatter and Oparanya’s interest, DP Kindiki emphasized that competition is a natural element of democratic politics.
However, he made it clear that he has no intention of retreating or stepping aside for anyone seeking to displace him on the ruling coalition’s ticket ahead of 2027.

“I am not afraid of Wycliffe Oparanya or any other leader who aspires to be the Deputy President,” Kindiki stated to the charged crowd. “I fought hard to build and establish this government. I will not pack my bags and join the opposition—I will stay right here and defend my position from within.”
Kindiki’s energetic declaration comes amid intense political realignment following recent coalition discussions and proposals from opposition factions advocating for regional power-sharing arrangements ahead of the next election cycle.
Reaffirming his commitment to President William Ruto’s economic agenda, the Deputy President called on leaders from the Mount Kenya region and across the country to focus on development and unity rather than early succession politics.
Kindiki assured supporters that he remains firmly anchored within the administration, confident in his track record, political capital, and standing within the ruling coalition heading into 2027.
