James Orengo Faces Impeachment Threat Over Slur Against Gladys Wanga
Siaya County Governor, Senior Counsel James Orengo, has landed in severe political trouble following an aggressive push by local leaders to remove him from office.
The veteran politician, revered for surviving countless political storms since Kenya’s independence, faces a looming impeachment motion in the Siaya County Assembly.
The political heat intensified after Hon. Bonyo Booker Washington, the Majority Whip of the Siaya County Assembly and MCA for North Uyoma Ward, publicly demanded Orengo’s impeachment.
The uproar stems from controversial remarks Governor Orengo made during a political rally in neighboring Homa Bay County.
The Catalyst: Verbal Attacks in Homa Bay
Governor Orengo is currently leading the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative, a political movement fiercely advocating against the 2026 re-election bid of President William Ruto.
However, his cross-county campaign hit a violent snag in Homa Bay when he directly targeted the local Governor, Gladys Wanga.
Orengo’s verbal remarks against Governor Wanga were widely condemned as a “disrespectful and sexist attack on women’s leadership.”

Calls for Impeachment Grow
Back home in Siaya, Hon. Booker Bonyo slammed the Governor for bringing disrespect to the office and undermining female leaders in the region.
“We cannot tolerate a leader who travels to neighboring counties to demean women in leadership. The Governor must face accountability on the floor of the Assembly,” Bonyo asserted.
As the Majority Whip mobilizes MCAs to table the formal impeachment motion, Orengo’s long-standing political acumen faces its toughest test yet.
Observers note that while Orengo is an expert at navigating national politics, this localized executive-legislative fallout over gender-insensitive remarks could decisively alter his political future.
