Naivasha MP Jane Kihara Pleads for Calm Amid Destructive Fuel Price Hike Protests
NAIVASHA, Kenya — Naivasha Member of Parliament Honorable Jane Kihara has strongly condemned the destruction of private property and businesses in her constituency following intense nationwide protests over the recent fuel price hikes.
Taking to her social media platforms, the lawmaker, who is a staunch ally of former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, expressed deep concern over the looting and vandalism that has left local business owners counting massive losses.
While acknowledging the citizens’ right to protest against government policies, Kihara termed the destruction of property a “retrogressive act” that derails economic progress.

“My Naivasha people, even as we express our displeasure on how the government is governing us, let us do so with respect to our property,” Kihara pleaded.
The MP emphasized that while Kenyans are justified in their frustration over economic mismanagement, destroying existing enterprises only worsens the financial situation for ordinary citizens.
A Call for Executive Empathy
In her statement, Kihara did not hold back from criticizing the national executive. She warned that the administration is currently dealing with a highly desperate and angry populace, urging those in power to approach Kenyans with respect and empathy rather than force.
“The government of the day must also be alive to the fact that they are dealing with a very desperate and angry society,” she noted, calling on the executive to address the citizens’ grievances directly.
Closing her address, the legislator sent her sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the chaotic demonstrations, while offering sympathy to the affected business community.
She reiterated her call for peaceful agitation, urging her constituents to protect their livelihoods while fighting for good governance.
