Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally revealed the list of political heavyweights the United Opposition is considering for its presidential ticket, putting to rest weeks of speculation about the coalition’s direction ahead of the next General Election.
Speaking in Murang’a County during the funeral service of the late mother to Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya, Gachagua struck a confident and reassuring tone, telling supporters not to be anxious about the future of the opposition.
The outspoken leader maintained that the coalition remains united and focused, despite recent political setbacks, and promised that Kenyans would soon be informed of the next major steps.
In his address, Gachagua disclosed that the opposition is currently vetting several seasoned leaders for the top seat, with the aim of settling on a candidate capable of mounting a formidable challenge to President William Ruto.

He named Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i, former Justice Minister Martha Karua, and himself as the individuals under consideration.
According to Gachagua, the discussions within the opposition are not about personal ambition but about identifying the most suitable candidate to carry the coalition’s vision and respond to the concerns of ordinary Kenyans.
He emphasized that consultations are ongoing and that unity remains the guiding principle in the decision-making process.
The revelation was received with excitement by mourners and supporters who viewed it as a sign that the opposition is reorganizing and preparing for the political battles ahead.
Analysts say the diverse list reflects an attempt to appeal to different regions and voting blocs across the country.
As the opposition continues its internal consultations, attention now turns to when and how it will unveil its final choice, a decision that is expected to significantly shape Kenya’s political landscape in the coming months.
