Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has returned to active politics with renewed energy, just days after the United opposition suffered a setback in the Mbeere North by-election.
In a video that has since circulated widely online, Gachagua appeared upbeat and defiant as he took his campaign to the ground, signaling that the loss had not slowed his political momentum.
The seemingly jovial former second-in-command made his first major public political appearance in the Mount Kenya region only hours after attending a funeral service in Murang’a County.
He later addressed residents of Githurai in Ruiru Constituency, where he launched a sharp attack on President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking to a large crowd, Gachagua urged voters to make President Ruto a one-term president in the 2027 General Election.
He called on residents to rally behind the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), asking them not only to support the party’s presidential candidate but also to vote for DCP candidates across the board.
Gachagua specifically appealed for votes for DCP gubernatorial, senatorial, woman representative, and county assembly candidates.
According to him, securing numbers in both Parliament and county assemblies would ensure that the region is protected, as all major decisions would require their approval.
His remarks mark the beginning of what appears to be an intensified opposition push ahead of the 2027 polls.
