Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has explained why the United Opposition is yet to publicly unveil the candidate who will face President William Ruto in the next general election.
Speaking during a public engagement, Gachagua said the delay is a calculated strategy aimed at protecting their preferred candidate from early political attacks.
For months, the opposition has faced criticism from Kenya Kwanza leaders, who accuse it of lacking direction for failing to name a single flag bearer.

While President Ruto continues to tour the country and campaign actively, the opposition has instead focused on internal consultations and coalition-building meetings.
According to Gachagua, naming their candidate too early would expose them to sustained political sabotage.
He claimed that President Ruto and his allies would work aggressively to damage the reputation of the opposition’s choice through propaganda and malice. To avoid this, the coalition has agreed to keep the identity of their candidate confidential until late December.
Gachagua insisted that the opposition remains united and confident, urging supporters to remain patient as the strategy unfolds.
