Gachagua Fires Back at Governor Susan Kihika Over Women in Leadership Remarks
NAIROBI, Kenya — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has firmly dismissed claims by Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika accusing him of harboring hostility toward women in power, declaring that political accountability applies equally to all leaders regardless of gender.
Speaking from his home while hosting a delegation of political aspirants from Murang’a County, the former Deputy President responded directly to criticism leveled against him by Governor Kihika across her digital platforms.
The fiery dispute stems from recent remarks made by Gachagua in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County. During his address, Gachagua urged local residents to vote out politicians affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza administration in upcoming elections.

He specifically targeted female leaders allied with the ruling coalition, alleging they visited the region dressed attractively in an effort to influence voters—a strategy he claimed ultimately failed.
In response, Governor Kihika publicly called out Gachagua, accusing him of holding a deep-seated bias against female leadership and weaponizing gender dynamics in political debates.
“Traitors Will Go Home, Regardless of Gender”
Rejecting Kihika’s framing, Gachagua maintained that his political crusade is focused on national performance and political loyalty, not gender dynamics.
“Political accountability knows no gender. All leaders who have betrayed the trust of the electorate will be sent home, regardless of whether they are men or women,” Gachagua stated during the Murang’a meeting.
Gachagua urged voters across the Mount Kenya region and beyond to evaluate leaders based on their service delivery and commitment to the public, rather than shielding non-performing officials behind gender arguments.
The exchange highlights mounting political friction within the region, with former ally factions locking horns as realignment activities gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
