President William Samoei Ruto marked his 59th birthday on December 21, 2025, attracting warm messages from supporters and allies who praised his leadership journey since assuming office in 2022.
Many Kenyans took to social media to celebrate the Head of State, describing him as a resilient and visionary leader steering the country through a challenging economic period.
However, one birthday message has sparked widespread debate online and in political circles. Senator John Methu, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, sent a congratulatory note to President Ruto that blended goodwill with sharp political advice.
In his message, Senator Methu acknowledged the President’s rise to the highest office in the land, noting that at 59, Ruto had “amassed enough” and had been granted a rare opportunity to redefine his legacy.

He urged the President to seize the moment to transform his leadership style and focus on unity and good governance.
Methu’s remarks were particularly striking for their candid tone. While wishing Ruto a happy birthday, the senator called on him to undergo what he termed a “Damascus moment,” recalibrate his leadership, and “leave a Kibaki-mark” — a reference to former President Mwai Kibaki, widely remembered for prioritizing economic stability and institutional reforms.
The senator further advised President Ruto to address issues that continue to trouble many Kenyans, including corruption, alleged extrajudicial killings, dishonesty in public office, and what he described as excessive taxation.
According to Methu, tackling these concerns head-on would help the President regain public trust and win over more Kenyans.
The message has drawn mixed reactions, with some praising the senator for speaking frankly, while others viewed the remarks as inappropriate for a birthday greeting.
As President Ruto enters his 60th year, the comments underscore the growing political pressure for reforms and a leadership approach that resonates more deeply with ordinary citizens.
