Drama in ODM as Millie Odhiambo Clashes with Catherine Omanyo Over Edwin Sifuna’s Fate
Tensions are escalating within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following a public spat between Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo and Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo over the future of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
The dispute comes amid growing uncertainty in the party after the reported passing of ODM leader Raila Odinga, a development that has intensified internal power struggles and succession debates.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Odhiambo dismissed claims that she has been neutral in the ongoing wrangles. She insisted that she has consistently advocated for reconciliation and unity within ODM, even as divisions deepen.

“I took a clear stand for reconciliation and unity. Goons were sent to attack me for seeking a strong and unified party,” she stated.
Odhiambo further accused Omanyo of opportunism, alleging that the Busia legislator has positioned herself to take over Sifuna’s role. “Hon. Omanyo took a stand to take Sifuna’s position,” Odhiambo added, signaling a deepening rift between the two leaders.
However, a contrasting report by The Star Kenya paints a different picture. According to the publication, Omanyo had earlier accused Odhiambo of sitting on the fence and failing to take a firm position as tensions rise within the party.
Omanyo reportedly criticized what she termed as indecisiveness at a time when ODM requires strong leadership.
The exchange highlights the widening cracks within ODM, with factions emerging over leadership direction and loyalty. As uncertainty looms over Sifuna’s position, the party now faces mounting pressure to restore unity and chart a clear path forward.
Political observers warn that unless ODM resolves its internal disputes quickly, the infighting could weaken its influence ahead of future political contests.
