The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, with leaders and citizens expressing deep sorrow over the loss of one of Kenya’s most influential political figures of the 1990s.
In a heartfelt statement, President Ruto paid glowing tribute to Jirongo, describing him not only as a political ally but also as a personal friend whose impact on Kenya’s political and economic landscape will be remembered for generations.

The Head of State praised Jirongo as a relentless go-getter, a seasoned businessman, and a consummate politician who refused to be defined or defeated by life’s challenges.
“Jirongo was a fighter in every sense: blunt yet warm, bold yet approachable, enlightened and endlessly entrepreneurial,” President Ruto said.
He highlighted Jirongo’s rare ability to combine political courage with personal warmth, noting that he was a leader who never shied away from difficult decisions or bold ideas.
The President further eulogized the late former MP as a man of immense generosity, recalling how Jirongo was always willing to uplift others and support initiatives he believed in using his time, resources, and influence.
According to Ruto, Jirongo’s willingness to back people and ideas without hesitation set him apart in Kenya’s competitive political environment.
Cyrus Jirongo rose to national prominence in the 1990s, becoming one of the youngest and most influential politicians of his era. He played a key role in shaping political campaigns and was widely admired for his organizational skills, charisma, and sharp political instincts.
Beyond politics, he was a successful entrepreneur whose business ventures inspired many young Kenyans to pursue enterprise and innovation.
As messages of condolence continue to pour in, Kenyans are remembering Jirongo as a bold trailblazer who lived life on his own terms and left an indelible mark on the nation’s political history.
President Ruto concluded his message by extending his thoughts and prayers to Jirongo’s family and friends, saying, “Rest in peace, my friend.”
The nation now mourns a leader whose legacy will continue to influence Kenya’s political discourse for years to come.
