New details have emerged regarding National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetangula’s next political move following the humiliating defeat his Ford Kenya party suffered in the Chwele–Kabuchai Ward by-election.
The loss has been widely attributed to the active involvement of Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya, who openly campaigned for independent candidate Eric Wekesa.
Natembeya’s decision to take the political battle to Wetangula’s stronghold sent shockwaves across Western Kenya politics.
Despite facing hostility during the campaign — including attacks on his convoy and damage to vehicles — the governor remained defiant, framing the by-election as a protest vote against what he termed “political intimidation and entitlement.”
The victory of Wekesa was therefore seen by many as a direct blow to Wetangula’s authority in Bungoma County.

However, insiders within Ford Kenya now claim that the Speaker is plotting a long-term political revenge against Natembeya.
According to sources familiar with internal party discussions, Wetangula is allegedly backing Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha as a potential challenger to Natembeya in the 2027 Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race.
The sources further allege that Wetangula’s allies have been increasingly visible in meetings convened by Nakhumicha, a move viewed as early groundwork for a major political realignment in the county.
While neither Wetangula nor Nakhumicha has publicly confirmed the plan, the growing cooperation between Ford Kenya operatives and the CS has fueled speculation.
Political analysts argue that such a strategy would signal Wetangula’s determination to reclaim lost influence and neutralize Natembeya’s rising profile.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, observers expect the rivalry between the two leaders to intensify, with Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties becoming key battlegrounds in Western Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
