KAMPALA, UGANDA — A shocking breach of media freedom and the rule of law unfolded during a live broadcast in Kampala, after masked, armed men stormed the studios of Simba Radio 97.3 FM and forcibly dragged out a featured guest mid-show.

The harrowing incident, captured on video and rapidly circulating across social media platforms, shows the abrupt interruption of the station’s popular Saturday talk show, Gasimbagane Ne Bannamawulire.

Outspoken political commentator and former intelligence officer Charles Rwomushana was seated in the studio when plainclothes operatives carrying firearms pushed past security and burst onto the set.
