Video: Driver of Climax Bus That Killed Cyrus Jirongo Speaks, Reveals Alleged Mistake That Led to Tragic Crash

Kenyans are still mourning the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Honorable Cyrus Jirongo, who lost his life in a tragic road accident on Friday, December 13, 2025. The fatal crash involved his private vehicle and a Climax bus that was traveling from Nairobi to Busia County.

As tributes continue to pour in from leaders and members of the public, new details have emerged following a video statement allegedly recorded by the driver of the Climax bus involved in the accident.

In the emotional clip that has since circulated online, the driver explains what he claims led to the deadly collision.

According to the driver, the late Jirongo had just exited a nearby petrol station where he had stopped to refuel before joining the busy highway.

He claims that after merging onto the road, Jirongo encountered a traffic jam and attempted to overtake other vehicles. At that moment, the Climax bus was already approaching on the same lane.

The driver alleges that the former MP did not give way in time, resulting in a head-on collision. He stated that upon noticing the impending danger, he tried to avert the accident by applying emergency brakes and swerving, but it was too late to avoid impact. “I tried my best to save him, but the car hit the bus,” the driver is heard saying in the video.

Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident, urging the public to avoid speculation until official findings are released. Police are expected to analyze the scene, vehicle conditions, and eyewitness accounts as part of the probe.

Cyrus Jirongo, a prominent and influential politician in the 1990s, is remembered for his bold leadership and contribution to Kenya’s political landscape. His sudden death has left a deep void among family, friends, and supporters across the country.
