Why I Voted to Impeach Gachagua: Edwin Sifuna Sets the Record Straight
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has opened up about his decision to vote against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Speaking on Citizen TV’s The Explainer show, Sifuna clarified why he took that decisive political stand.
Host Yvonne Okwara pressed the ODM Secretary General on the factors driving his crucial vote in Parliament.
Interference with Devolution in Nairobi County
Sifuna disclosed that Gachagua’s persistent interference in Nairobi’s leadership was a primary trigger for his decision. As Nairobi’s elected senator, he argued that county governance must remain protected from external executive overreach.
“One key allegation was his continuous interference with Nairobi County governance, which directly undermined devolution,” Sifuna stated during the show.

No Bribes or Coercion in Gachagua Impeachment Vote
The lawmaker strongly dismissed claims of external political pressure or monetary influence during the historic process.
He insisted his voting decision came purely from an objective evaluation of the presented evidence.
“I made an informed decision based on facts,” Sifuna declared during the live broadcast. “Nobody bribed me, and nobody forced me to vote for his removal from office.”
Safeguarding Devolution for Kenyans
Sifuna, who also leads the Linda Mwananchi movement, reiterated his firm stance on constitutional governance.
He maintained that protecting devolution guarantees fair resource allocation and stable governance for all Nairobi taxpayers. His public remarks aim to clear up lingering public speculation following the high-profile parliamentary vote.
