Ruto Sends Warning to Opposition After UDA’s Landslide Defeat in Ol-Kalou
NAIROBI, KENYA — President William Ruto has broken his silence following a resounding defeat for the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the recently concluded Ol-Kalou constituency by-election.
In a decisive political showdown, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)—allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua—clinched a landslide victory.
The IEBC officially declared DCP’s candidate, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, the winner with over 35,000 votes, leaving UDA’s Samuel Muchina a distant second with just over 5,400 votes.
A Warning from State House
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a consultative meeting with the leadership of Bungoma County, President Ruto sent a clear, defiant warning to the opposition.

He dismissed assertions that the by-election results signal a shift in national politics, urging his rivals to prepare for the ultimate political battle in 2027.
“A single by-election does not dictate the outcome of a general election,” Ruto stated. “The 2027 race will be decided by the tangible track records of elected leaders, not by midterm political winds.”
Eyes on the 2027 General Election
The President assured his political allies and UDA supporters not to panic over the loss. He emphasized that the ruling coalition remains focused on delivering its development agenda.
Expressing absolute confidence in his strategic capabilities, President Ruto maintained that he is fully prepared to play the political game effectively to secure a second term in office.
While political analysts view the Ol-Kalou outcome as a proxy war indicating shifts in the Mt. Kenya region, the President’s bold stance signals that the battle for 2027 has only just begun.
