Natembeya Speaks Out on Public Protocol Clash With Babu Owino
Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has broken his silence regarding the public confrontation between himself and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino during a recent political rally in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
The incident, which went viral across social media, escalated into a brief clash among opposing supporters present at the venue.
Addressing the media to set the record straight, Natembeya clarified that the squabble stemmed entirely from a misunderstanding regarding event protocol.
According to the county chief, he had initially agreed on an operational structure with Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, who was slated to serve as the master of ceremonies for the gathering.

Natembeya explained that as the host governor, his role was to hand over the microphone to Wamboka so that the agreed-upon order of speakers could proceed smoothly.
However, tension arose when Babu Owino attempted to bypass the planned sequence to take charge of directing the event.
“I told him to relax and follow the sequence because I understood this to be a matter of standard protocol,” Natembeya noted, emphasizing that external visitors must respect local event structures. “You cannot come from Nairobi to dictate how things are run in Kitale.”
Natembeya further revealed he was later informed that Babu Owino traditionally directs the program during Linda Mwananchi movement rallies—a custom Natembeya was unaware of at the time. The governor maintained that proper communication prior to the rally would have easily prevented the public friction.
The altercation highlights the simmering political rivalries and organizational friction within broad political coalitions ahead of upcoming elections. Natembeya urged all visiting leaders to exercise mutual respect for local governance structures to maintain order at public gatherings.
