Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has publicly accused President William Ruto’s administration of orchestrating political interference in county affairs, escalating tensions between the county boss and the national government.
In a video recorded on February 25, 2025, an agitated Natembeya claimed that senior national government officials are meddling in local politics in Trans Nzoia, allegedly undermining his leadership.
The governor, who has branded himself a champion of the “liberation” of the Western region, expressed frustration over what he termed as misuse of state machinery for political ends.
Natembeya specifically called out the Trans Nzoia County Commissioner, accusing him of organizing and attending political meetings in support of former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

According to the governor, the commissioner has been attending such meetings dressed in full police regalia, a move Natembeya described as intimidation and a breach of public service neutrality.
“I served in government before and we kept off politics completely,” Natembeya stated, adding that administrators should focus on service delivery rather than partisan activities.
The remarks come just days after the governor appeared in Kakamega alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, where he reaffirmed his alignment with the opposition faction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Natembeya has recently intensified tours across the Western region, rallying residents to unite politically.
His latest sentiments are likely to fuel further political debate, as the relationship between certain governors and the national government continues to face strain amid early realignments for 2027.
