Political Shakeup in Western as Vihiga Elders Endorse Edwin Sifuna Over Musalia Mudavadi
Prime Cabinet Secretary Dr. Musalia Mudavadi is facing a major political storm in his home turf after traditional elders in Vihiga County publicly broke ranks with his leadership, opting instead to endorse Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for the presidency.
The unexpected shift unfolded in a widely circulated video where prominent Vihiga elders explicitly rejected Mudavadi’s appeal for the Western region to remain steadfast behind President William Ruto’s administration.
Mudavadi has consistently urged the Mulembe nation to back the current government before eyeing the top seat in 2032. However, the elders dismissed his calls, signaling deep discontent with his incremental approach.
Vihiga County has historically served as Mudavadi’s stronghold, where he was long regarded as the region’s political kingpin. The elders’ outright defiance represents a significant blow to his political authority in the vote-rich Western block.
In a bold declaration, the traditional leaders called on Sifuna, the vocal Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General, to visit Vihiga and launch massive grassroots campaigns across the region.

Sifuna’s rising national profile and aggressive political stance appear to have resonated with local leaders seeking vibrant representation.
By inviting Sifuna to establish a strong presence in Vihiga, the elders have effectively opened the doors to new political dynamics, challenging Mudavadi’s long-standing hegemony in the area.
This sudden turn of events forces Mudavadi back to the drawing board. As rival factions fight for political supremacy across Western Kenya, failing to secure his home base could severely undermine his influence within the ruling coalition and derail his future presidential ambitions.
Mudavadi will now need to act swiftly to heal regional rifts and reclaim his standing as the indisputable voice of the region.
