A new political twist has emerged in Trans Nzoia County after former Presidential advisor Moses Kuria claimed that Governor George Natembeya has shifted focus from national politics to securing a second term in office.
Speaking during a televised interview, Kuria alleged that Natembeya has quietly abandoned his earlier perceived presidential ambitions under the TAWE movement.
According to Kuria, the governor is now concentrating his efforts on consolidating his political base within Trans Nzoia County ahead of the next general election.
Natembeya has recently been vocal through his TAWE initiative, often criticizing key Western Kenya leaders including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
He has accused them of failing to leverage their positions in government to benefit the Western region.

However, Kuria now claims the governor’s strategy has changed. He stated that Natembeya has toned down his national campaigns and is instead focusing on local political battles.
Kuria further alleged that the governor is preparing for a tough gubernatorial contest against potential challengers such as Susan Nakhumicha and Chris Wamalwa.
“The current political dynamics in the country are forcing many leaders to rethink their ambitions,” Kuria said, suggesting that the road to the presidency is becoming increasingly complex.
The remarks have sparked debate among political observers, with some viewing Kuria’s claims as strategic messaging aimed at reshaping perceptions within the Western Kenya political landscape.
Natembeya has yet to respond publicly to the assertions. His next political moves are expected to draw significant attention as the 2027 election cycle approaches, especially given his influence in the region and his outspoken leadership style.
