Malala Dismisses Reports of Quitting DCP for UDA Cabinet Position

Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General and current Senator Cleophas Malala has formally shut down rumors suggesting he plans to ditch the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) to join President William Ruto’s Cabinet.

Speculation had been rife across political circles that the outspoken politician was lining up a return to government, with claims alleging he was targeting a appointment to replace either Co-operatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya or Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya.

Addressing the claims directly on his podcast, Bonga na Malalah, the vibrant leader clarified that he has no interest in abandoning the DCP or taking up a Cabinet Secretary post in the current administration.

Malala dismissed the reports on logical grounds, citing the upcoming election timelines and statutory requirements governing public officers seeking elective office. He pointed out that any Cabinet Secretary intending to run for political office in the 2027 General Election will be legally required to resign early next year.

“It makes no political or practical sense for me to leave my position in the DCP, join the Cabinet, and then be forced to step down just six months later to prepare for elections,” Malala stated on his platform.

The former Kakamega Senator reaffirmed his commitment to his political path, emphasizing that his focus remains locked on his long-term goals and his role within the party.

His clarification puts an end to intense speculation regarding a potential realignment between him and the ruling party.
