Junet Mohamed Claims Uhuru Kenyatta Is Sabotaging Fred Matiang’i’s 2027 Presidential Ambitions
NAIROBI, Kenya — Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has sparked intense political debate across the country following remarks alleging that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is systematically undermining the political future of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a video that has quickly gone viral on social media, Junet warned that Uhuru’s endorsement of Matiang’i, paired with the recent restructuring within the Jubilee Party, will ultimately cripple the former minister’s presidential ambitions.
The controversy follows a high-profile Jubilee Party delegates meeting where Uhuru Kenyatta officially unveiled Matiang’i as his preferred presidential candidate for 2027.

During the gathering, Uhuru praised his former “super Cabinet Secretary” as a visionary and decisive leader capable of transforming Kenya’s economic and political landscape.
However, Junet Mohamed offered a starkly different interpretation of the former head of state’s political maneuvering.
He argued that handing over the leadership of a diminished Jubilee Party to Matiang’i—at a time when key political figures have defected to form or join newer political entities like the DCP party—effectively traps Matiang’i in a weakened outfit.
According to the Suna East lawmaker, saddling Matiang’i with a struggling political vehicle isolates him from building a broader, competitive coalition necessary to mount a serious national campaign.
Junet asserted that this political move will halt Matiang’i’s momentum before his campaign can even take off.
As political realignments intensify ahead of 2027, the viral clip has raised fresh questions among political analysts about the true strategy behind Jubilee’s endorsements and whether Dr. Matiang’i can successfully navigate the complex national political landscape.
