Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again stirred political debate after making explosive claims about the outcome of the 2022 Kenyan General Election.
Speaking during a public event in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua alleged that Suna East MP Junet Mohammed played a critical role in undermining the presidential bid of the late Raila Odinga.
In a moment that has since gone viral, Gachagua addressed former President Uhuru Kenyatta directly, claiming he was revealing the “truth” behind Raila’s narrow loss.
According to Gachagua, Junet allegedly maintained secret contacts with then-Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the election.
Gachagua claimed that during these alleged meetings, Junet was facilitated financially to influence the electoral process.

He further alleged that the plan involved frustrating agents allied to Odinga, preventing them from effectively overseeing polling stations. This, he argued, weakened Raila’s ability to safeguard his votes, ultimately tilting the outcome in Ruto’s favor.
The 2022 presidential race was one of the closest in Kenya’s history, with Ruto declared winner by a margin of less than 300,000 votes. Gachagua’s remarks have reignited conversations around the integrity of the election and the internal dynamics within Odinga’s camp at the time.
However, the claims remain unverified, and neither Junet Mohammed nor other key figures mentioned have publicly responded to the allegations.
Political analysts warn that such statements, especially without evidence, risk heightening tensions in an already polarized political environment.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with Kenyans calling for clarity and accountability from those involved.
As the country edges closer to the next election cycle, the remarks are likely to fuel further political debate and scrutiny over past electoral processes.
