Gachagua Warns Governor Kiarie Badilisha After Major Defection From UDA to DCP

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has welcomed Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Badilisha officially ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party during a high-profile meeting.

The warm reception took place at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County. Nyandarua Senator John Methu and several local leaders accompanied the governor.

Gachagua Issues Warning Over Imminent State Pressure

Immediately after welcoming him, the former second-in-command issued a sharp warning to the county chief. He cautioned Badilisha to prepare for political intimidation from President William Ruto’s administration.

Gachagua noted that defecting from UDA attracts swift state retaliation against rebellious leaders. He advised Badilisha to stay vigilant as government operatives move to pressure his administration.

Mount Kenya Realignments as Badilisha Joins DCP

“Expect state agencies to target you now that you joined DCP,” Gachagua warned Badilisha during the event.

He urged the governor to remain firm and resist any political arm-twisting from state machinery. Badilisha confirmed that he will defend his Nyandarua seat on a DCP ticket. The governor noted that local residents fully support his decision to join the new outfit.

UDA Suffers Setback in Regional Battle

This defection deals a major blow to UDA in the central region. Gachagua emphasized that DCP will conduct free and fair nominations for all aspirants.

He promised equal treatment for all leaders joining the growing opposition vehicle. More elected leaders from the region are expected to defect in coming weeks.
